We want to thank the Malerba family at Angelina’s Ristorante for once again allowing Michael to light the Christmas tree on Sunday December 11. There was food, hot cocoa, ice skating and great performances by Miss Caroline’s Dance Elite, Dragon Kim’s Karate, St. Clare’s Childrens Choir, Chris Viola and Cheyenne. $877 was raised through the raffles, donations and 50/50. On Friday October 29, IS 75 held its annual 6th grade Halloween Dance. We would like to thank Grace, Jenna and Vincent Como for running a bake sale fundraiser for Michael’s Cause. In total $200 was raised at the bake sale and donated to Michael’s Cause. Every dollar counts in this battle against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy!!
We want to take this opportunity to thank all you came out to support our son and Michael's Cause at the 5th annual Step for a Cure run and walk!! Your support has given our son a chance. We had just shy of 300 runners and over 700 walkers join us as we continue to seek out the best medical and scientific research to find better treatments and a cure for this disease!!

On Monday April 25 the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW Local 1D/2D) held its annual Tee Up for a Cure Golf Outing at the Richmond County Country Club benefitting Michael's Cause. This year's outing completely sold out with 150 golfers on the course. A special thank you to Vincent Fyfe, George Orlando, Frank Cognetta and Vincent D'Acunto Jr. for organizing the event. A fabulous dinner followed at the Country Club were Garret McGuinness and Martin Silver were honored. To date the UFCW has donated over $100K from the proceeds of the outings. Michael's Cause raises awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and directs all funding to the best medical and scientific research to find better treatments and a future cure for this disease in time to save Michael who is 9 years old and the other boys affected. On April 24 LIMUSCLECARS held a car show at Hooters in Farmingdale and donated proceeds to Michael's Cause. We thank the several hundred cars that participated that day and a special thanks to Steve Opalek for organizing the event. Thank you to Dana Depinto for getting us involved and for your support. At the end of the day $1000 was collected for Michael's Cause.
On Friday 4/1/2016 IS75 held its annual student/faculty basketball game at Tottenville High School with all of the proceeds going to Michael's Cause!! On Sunday 12/6/2015, Michael was asked to take part in the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Angelina's Ristorante. Michael's Cause along with the John Hudson Foundation were accepting donations and a total of $990 was collected for Michael's Cause through donations, 50/50, gift cards and raffle items. In addition Pinot's Palette collected $145 for Michael's Cause as well. Thank you to Ashley Marie (Ms. 5 Boroughs) There were rides, games and of course Santa.
On Friday October 23 IS 75 held the 6th grade Halloween Dance. At the event a bake sale fundraiser was held for Michael's Cause. A total of $260 was raised from the sale of baked goods at the table.

Over the course of the past 4 years we have been touched by the generosity and support of so many. May 20, 2015 was Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day at PS 3 where Michael is a 3rd Grader. Everyone wore blue in honor of Michael's Cause. Over $1,000 was collected from the student body. A tree was planted in the school's courtyard. This tree symbolizes growth and strength as a sign of Michael's battle with this disease. A special thanks to the Jeanine Guerrieri and the PS 3 PTA for arranging the event. Thank you to principal Elmer Meyers and asst. principal Danielle Papa for their continued support!! On March 6, 2015 the IS 75 Faculty Basketball Bake Sale earned $368. This included $100 donated back by the Schneider Family for the 50/50 and $40 from the school. We thank you for raising the awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and the life saving funds that were raised!!
On February 25, 2015 The Staten Island Giving Circle held its monthly meeting at the Old Bermuda Inn on Staten Island. We had the opportunity to speak about Michael's Cause and our mission. At the end of the meeting a 50/50 raffle was held and Ms. Mary Alfano was gracious enough to donate her half of the 50/50, $540 back to Michael's Cause. The SIGC also donated $100 towards the 4th Annual Somewhere Over the Rainbow Dinner Dance which was held on March 21, 2015 at the Hilton. On March 19, 2015 Ms. Regina Corbett donated her winnings from the charity raffle $400 back to Michael's Cause. We are so thankful for all of the work that this group has done and truly appreciate their support of our cause. The students of PS 36 held their annual Penny Harvest in May 2014. They were able to collect $750 and donated the proceeds to Michael's Cause. Way to go!! Michael was a student in PS 36 until the end of 1st grade. We are happy to know that they care about him and Michael's Cause.
Ms. Michelle Devlin and her 3rd class at St. Charles School organized a walk in the school for Michael's Cause. Money was collected for each lap the students made. On Monday December 22 they presented us with $1300 that was raised by the class. A special thanks goes to 3rd grader George Mitilineos for telling his teacher about Michael and the cause. This young student wanted to help in any way he could after meeting Michael. His sense of spirit and awareness was nothing short of remarkable and the support of the class was unbelievable!! On 12/7/2014, Angelina’s Ristorante held it’s annual Tree lighting ceremony. This year Michael along with James Raffone were honored by lighting the tree. A 50/50 raffle took place and $222 was raised for Michael’s Cause.
On Saturday October 18, 2014 the Plainedge High School in North Massapequa NY held there annual Fall Harvest festival. Thank you to Ms. Laura Ruotolo for organizing the event. A special thanks goes out to the students of Plainedge. The event raised $346 for Michaels Cause.

On 11/14/2014, Grace, Jenna and Nick Como held a bake sale fundraiser at the IS 75 7th and 8th Grade night of 100 Pizza’s. The event raised $133 for Michaels Cause. Nice work once again by the Como family.
On November 4, 2014 we are sorry for the loss of Chela Jiminez (mother committee member Ivette Ferrino). Ms. Jiminez was 68 years old. In her final days her desire was in lieu of flowers for donations to be sent to Michael's Cause. We are proud to say that $479 was donated to the cause. We thank you Chela - may you rest in peace!!
On October 18, 2014 Grace Como, Jenna Como and Natalie Musciola held a bake sale at IS 75 celebrating the 6th grade Halloween Party. Plenty of baked goods compliments of Grace Como's kitchen were for sale and $170 was raised for Michael's Cause.
We would like to once again thank Vincent Malerba and Christina Malerba from Angelina's Ristorante for allowing Michael's Cause to be a part of the Pumpkin Harvest fest on Sunday October 19th. The event saw pumpkin painting, train rides and even a jump house for the kids. Donations and a 50/50 raffle raised $1305 for Michael's Cause. Thank you to the Staten Island Harley's Group, family and friends and all of those that participated and donated to the cause. A special thanks to the Angelina's Car Valet crew (Austin, James, Chris and Anthony) who even donated their tips to Michael's Cause. Nicholas Como, 14, won the 50/50 raffle ($200), and donated his winnings directly to Michael.
On August 24th Vito and Rose Lopa celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary!! In lieu of favors they decided to make a $250 donation to Michael's Cause. On the weekends of October 5 and October 12th Catie Kieran and Jessica Johnson held a lemonade stand fundraising event for Michaels Cause at a garage sale. The event raised $360 to be used to help science and research to find better treatments and a cure to help save Michael and the other boys affected by Duchenne.

On Sunday September 14, 2014, Ava & Victoria Castellano and Jadalyn Kenny held an Iced Tea sale fundraiser in front of their house on Sinclair Avenue. They raised $30 for Michael’s Cause and raised awareness for the disease.

On Tuesday March 20, 2014, PS 3 held a Michael’s Cause/Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day. The entire school wore royal blue symbolizing the unified fight to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The day was also Michael’s 8th birthday. The school raised over $900 for Michael’s Cause to be directed to the best possible research. On 4/6/2014, Ms. Regina Brown along with Ms. Julie Miano and Ms. Haley Brown organized a Bingo fundraiser at Bungalow 18 on Nelson Avenue. Several hundred supported the cause and a total of $1060 was raised for Michael's Cause. A special thanks goes out to Mike Cardella for hosting this event. All funds raised by Michael's Cause are directed in full to research to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
On March 22, 2014, “Michael’s Cause” played host to over 650 guests at their 3rd Annual “Believe in Miracles” Gala raising over $150,000 on the evening in their fight to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the Staten Island Hilton Garden Inn. In attendance that evening were US Congressman Michael Grimm, NYC Councilman Vincent Ignizio, cast members from the Sopranos and a special guest performance by Judy Torres. Showing their support to Michael’s Cause in a special video presentation were “Poison’s” front man Brett Michaels, NSYNC's Lance Bass, Gloria Gaynor, Paul Anka, NFL Star Tiki Barber, Olympic Champion Nastia Liukin as well as other special guests, who joined forces in a show of support for 7year old Michael Capolongo affected by this disease.

Michael's Cause would like to thank Bushido Dojo and Master Dace Goodwin for hosting a "Throwdown" fundraising event on Friday March 21,2014. The event raised $3303 which was donated to Michael's Cause to help research with better treatments and a future cure for Duchenne. Michael became a Black Belt for the day!!
On March 9, 2014 HQ Hair Salon (3161 Amboy Road) held a “Cuts for a Cure” fundraiser at their salon. The day was filled with fun and a lot of haircuts. $1140 was donated to Michael’s Cause. A special thanks to Addi Carlo for organizing the event.
On Friday 3/7/2014 a bake sale fund raiser took place for Michaels Cause at IS 75. Awareness of the disease was raised. We would like to thank The Como, Cristiano and Schneider families for raising awareness and $285 for Michael’s Cause.
We want to let you know about a beautiful event that was held on January 26, 2014 at the College of Staten Island. The Ryan Pisapia Memorial Fund sponsored a Cheer for a Cause event. The event had teams from Staten Island and Brooklyn. 543 cheerleaders participated. Proceeds benefitted Asperger’s Syndrome, Ryan Perrotta, Michael’s Cause and Tommy Guardavaccaro. A total of $4,500 was donated to Michael’s Cause. A very special thanks goes to Julie Miano and Regina Brown for organizing and running the event and making the day a total success.
The First Precinct Financial Area Security Council held a fundraising event at their summer luncheon at Battery Gardens thanks in part to Joseph Bellomo. The event raised $1500 for the cause. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for the support!!
In December 2013, the PS22 student council along with the Peer Mediators club led by Ms. Sandy Dinger held a Smencil (Smelly Pencil) fundraiser that raised $600. The students donated the money to Michael's Cause. From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank everyone involved with helping us find a cure for Duchenne!! On Saturday October 19, 2013, Plainedge Highschool in North Massapequa, NY held their annual Harvest festival. The event raised $500 which went directly to Michael for his future medical needs. Collections that day totaling $270 went to Michael’s Cause. Thank you to Ms. Laura Ruotolo for organizing the event. On November 12, 2013 Michael's Cause received a Check in the amount of $12,500 from Mr. Vincent Fyfe and Mr. Frankie Cognetta on behalf of UFCW local 1d and 2d (representing the workers in the wine and spirit industries). Michael's Cause along with United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) were the 2 honorary charities chosen from the the 1st Annual "Tee Up for a Cure" Golf Outing that was held on September 16, 2013 at the Richmond County Country Club.
We would like to thank Mr. Fyfe and Mr. Cognetta for helping Michael and the other boys affected by this disease. Together we will find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy!!
On Saturday November 9, 2013, Chris and Mari Capolongo's son Alex celebrated his 1st birthday party at Cowgirl NYC. Chris and Mari have supported Michael and Michael's Cause in every way from the beginning. These great people decided in lieu of presents for Alex to have donations sent to Michael's Cause. To date, $736 has been donated to Michael's Cause from family and friends of Mari and Chris.
We would like to thank you Mari and Chris for always thinking of Michael and Michael's Cause. We wish Alex a very happy 1st birthday and he will one day be proud that he was a part in helping us find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy!!
On November 6, 2013, the Fraternal Order of Police Surgeons Lodge No. 3 held their semi -annual meeting at the Westbury Manor on Long Island. Michaels Cause was invited to the meeting by Dr. Stephen Borchman and lodge president Dr. Gerald Ente . The Lodge donated $1000 to Michael's Cause. Additional donations by lodge members in the amount of $1350 were collected giving a grand total of $2350 raised.
A Rainbow Loom bracelet fundraiser raised $355 for Michael’s Cause. Thank you goes out to Michael’s friends Isabella, Sophia and Ronnie Mayronne and Olivia and Michael Biscardi for embarking on this mission a few months ago. They fully understand our goal and are working hard for us to achieve it.
Michael’s Cause held it’s 2nd annual Step for a Cure 5k Run and Walk at Clove Lakes Park on Sunday September 22, 2013. The event was a complete success with 165 registered runners and over 500 walkers.

The Parish of St. Thomas More held a car wash fundraiser for Michaels Cause on Saturday July 20, 2013 in Englishtown, NJ. $1250 was raised that day. A special thank you goes out to Deacon Matt Nicoscia and all of the children of the parish. Together we will find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy!!

Michael’s Cause was able to spread awareness of Duchenne and raise over $300 at the Sayreville Day in NJ on Sunday September 15, 2013. A special thanks goes out to Patti Fausto for organizing the event.
In August 2013, Isabella, Sophia and Ronnie opened up a lemonade stand and proceeded to raise $52.55 for Michael’s Cause. It is events like this that continues to show us that so many people care about Michael and finding a cure for Duchenne!!
William and Laraine Flick are a Staten Island couple that heard about Michael’s Cause through Holy Child Church in March. On June 27, 2013 they held their annual breakfast party for close friends, many of which were retired school teachers from IS72 on Staten Island. . They had over 28 people in attendance and asked for a donation for Michael’s Cause as part of the cost of what they would ordinarily pay for the breakfast. At the end of the day they raised $1200 for the cause. Many thanks to the Flick family for opening their home and helping our son and the many other boys suffering from this disease with this fundraiser.
The First Precinct Community Council of the Financial Area raised $1500 for Michaels Cause through a 50/50 fundraiser that was held at the Summer Luncheon at Battery Gardens. We are grateful for the support. Thank you to Kenneth May, Joe Bellomo, Raffie Saleem and Maria Mammano for their hard work in putting this together.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Frascogna of Ramsey NJ were married on June 9, 2013. In lieu of gifts they decided to have their guests donate money to the charity of their choice. Michael’s Cause received donations from Mr. and Mrs. John Petrocelli, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas D’Auria and Mrs. Isabel D’Auria totaling $500. We are humbled by the generosity extended by both the Frascogna and the families who donated to Michael’s Cause.
Ryan Kenneth Torgerson received his first holy communion and in lieu of favors they raised $250 for Michael’s Cause.

Michael’s Cause held its 2nd annual Wish Upon a Star Dinner Dance at the Hilton Garden Inn, Staten Island. It was truly a night to remember. Over 475 guests attended the event. Special guests of the evening included the Hamad family who lost 3 boys to this disease. Their story was one of inspiration and courage as Mr. Eddie Hamad spoke. He went on to say how important funding is to help research find a cure. Brielle Von Hugel along with the PS 22 Chorus sang “You’ll be in My Heart” and “My Wish”. Dr. Kathryn Wagner, from John Hopkins/Kennedy Krieger spoke about the future of Duchenne and the importance of raising funds for research. Noted Actor Dan Grimaldi from the series “The Sopranos” spoke about the cause. Staten Island Assemblyman Vincent Ignizio and Miss Richmond County Alyssa Depaolis were also in attendance.
Many items were on raffle display. Notable items raffles were $7500 in cash, a cruise, trips, tickets, jewelery and sports memorabilia.

Michael’s Cause sponsored the first annual 5k Run and Walk on Sunday September 23, 2012. The day turned out great with 80 runners and over 400 walkers. We are greatly thankful for all of those who were able to attend and all of our sponsors who provided food, drinks, entertainment, face painters and characters. The event was a complete success raising over $18,000. The day began with a proclamation read by a representative from Senator Lanza’s office. The 5k run along the South Beach Boardwalk was great. The walk followed suit. In addition there was a 100 meter kids fun run which saw Michael run hard and fast. Partners in Sound provided entertainment and there was plenty of food for all.
Thank you to Chrissy Catanzaro for hosting a BeautiControl Fundraiser Event at her house on August 24th.....The event raised nearly $200.00 for Michael's Cause!
On July 28 Enchanted Events held a carnival in Staten Island for Michael's Cause. Hundreds came to the event which consisted of rides, games, face painting, and family fun. It raised $1400 for Michael's Cause. A special thanks goes out to Jamie Daragjati and Lauren Sparacio for planning the event. Once again Michael's Cause is grateful for the support. Together we will find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
This Yoga fund raising event took place on April 27, 2012 at the “You Can Do It” Yoga center. The event raised $680 for Michael’s Cause. A special thanks to Susan Orrico-Duffy who organized the event.

P.S. 36 PTA in April 2012 raised $520 for Michael’s Cause during a fund raising event. All proceeds from the Disney Park Hopper pass were given.
The evening was a great success thanks to the overwhelming support we received from family, friends, work, school, and the community. Special thanks to the Michael's Cause Committee who worked very hard to insure that the evening ran smoothly. We completely sold out with 500 guests in attendance. The event raised about $50,000 for Michael's Cause and an additional $20,000 in monetary donations. Among the larger contributors were 1st Choice Industries (our main sponsor), Titanium Construction Services, The Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation, Raineri Jewelers, and the NYPD Sergeant's Benevolent Association . All floral arrangements were provided by Eltingville Florist. All funds raised by Michael's Cause will be directed to research to help for better treatments and a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The Capolongo family is extremely grateful and appreciative for all of the support we received from everyone.
